Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (Purnimanta) / Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (Amavasyanta) — the Great Night of Shiva. Observed with night-long vigil through the four jaama timings, with abhishekam and Rudram chanting.

Pushya nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (= Maasi in Tamil = Aquarius solar month). Women's pilgrimage festival at the Attukal Bhagavathy temple, Thiruvananthapuram. Recognised by Guinness for the largest gathering of women for a single religious activity. Devotees prepare pongala (sweet rice) in clay pots along the temple-radiating streets.

Phalguna Purnima — the bonfire night before Holi. Commemorates the burning of Holika.

Phalguna Krishna Pratipada — the festival of colors. Day after Holika Dahan; spring's arrival.

Bharani nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Meenam (= Panguni in Tamil = Pisces solar month). Annual festival at the Kodungalloor Bhagavathy temple, dedicated to the Devi Bhadrakali. The 7-day festival culminates in the Bharani-day Kavu Theendal procession; one of the most distinctive temple festivals of Kerala.

Chaitra Shukla Navami — birth of Sri Rama. Observed with fasting, Ramayana recitation, and afternoon arati.

Chaitra Shukla Trayodashi — birth of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara. Principal Jain festival; observed with temple visits, processions, vegetarian fasting, and recitation from the Kalpa Sutra.

Chaitra Purnima — birth of Hanuman. Hanuman Chalisa recitation, Sundara Kanda parayanam.

Mesha sankranti — Sun's sidereal ingress into Aries marks the start of the Tamil solar year and the month of Chithirai.

Mesha Sankranti — Kerala's astronomical new year. Observed with the Vishukkani (auspicious first sight at dawn — typically gold ornaments, kani konna flowers, rice, and the family deity arranged the night before so it is the first thing seen on waking). Vishu kaineettam: elders give cash gifts to younger family members.

Mesha Sankranti — Sikh new year and the foundation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 CE. Major Punjabi harvest festival. Same celestial event as Tamil New Year and Vishu.

Vaisakha Shukla Tritiya — 'undiminishing' tithi. Considered an auspicious day for new beginnings, gold purchases, and donations regardless of other panchang factors.

Pooram (Purva Phalguni) nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Medam (= Chithirai in Tamil = Aries solar month). The grandest temple festival of Kerala, held at the Vadakkunnathan temple in Thrissur. Famous for its caparisoned elephant procession, panchavadyam ensemble, and a closing display of fireworks at dawn.

Ashada Purnima — honor one's guru. Traditionally Vyasa's birthday; Buddhists mark Buddha's first sermon.

Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi — Ganesha's appearance. 10-day observance ending in visarjan (immersion). Especially major in Maharashtra.

Ashwin Shukla Dashami — the 10th day after Navratri. Celebrates Durga's victory over Mahishasura (in eastern India) and Rama's victory over Ravana (in northern India).

Hasta nakshatra in the Tamil month of Purattasi — annual Yajnopavita renewal for Sama Veda lineages. Falls about a month after Yajur Upakarma.

Ashwin Shukla 1 — start of the autumn 9-day Devi observance, the most widely-celebrated Navratri. Each day's color and devi form follows the standard sequence (Shailaputri → Brahmacharini → ...).

Karthika Krishna Trayodashi — the first day of the Diwali sequence. Dedicated to Dhanvantari (deva of medicine) and Kubera (lord of wealth). Traditional day to purchase metals.

Karthika Amavasya — the festival of lights. Lakshmi Puja in homes; Kali Puja in Bengal. Diyas lit; firecrackers traditionally; sweets exchanged.

Karthika Shukla Pratipada — day after Diwali. Commemorates Krishna lifting Govardhan hill. Annakut (mountain of food) offered.

Karthika Shukla Dwitiya — sister-brother bond observance, sister applies tilak and brother offers gifts.

Aippasi Shukla Shashti — Murugan's victory over the asura Surapadma. Observed with a 6-day fast culminating in Soorasamharam at Tiruchendur and other Murugan temples. Major Tamil Skanda festival.

Krittika nakshatra in the Tamil month of Karthigai — the festival of lights observed primarily in Tamil Nadu, predating Diwali in this tradition. Lamps lit in homes and temples.

Karthika Purnima — birth of Guru Nanak Dev, founder of Sikhism (1469 CE). Observed with akhand path (continuous reading of the Guru Granth Sahib), nagar kirtan processions, langar (community meals).

Shukla Ekadashi in the Tamil month of Margazhi — the day Vaikunta's gateway is said to open. Major Vishnu observance with all-day fast, Tirupati and Srirangam temples especially significant.
